The fourth Conference on Biochemical Markers for Brain Damage was held in Boothbay Harbour, Maine, USA September 8-10, 2005. At this meeting several new potential markers were presented. The contributors had used different ways, such as proteomic and cellular approach, to detect potential candidates. Several of these candidates have been tested in both animal and human models with promising results. After the meeting the delegates could conclude that we are definately into a new era of biochemical markers for brain damage, where a spectrum of different assays will give a comprahensive information on the damaged tissue.
