The BMBD meeting of 2009 was a great success. Since a whole 4 years had passed after the 2005 meeting in the USA, we saw many new studies and areas of research. For the first time, we saw reports of clinical use of brain biomarkers. Studies from Germany showed the ability of biomarkers to differentiate ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. Impressive work concerning paediatric head injury and biomarkers was presented and novel biomarkers were shown to differentiate between brain necrosis and apoptosis.
Socially, we experienced, as usual, the warming (?) tones of the Lund University house-band, Corpus Callosum, with Prof Romner on the drums. We had a much appreciated pub-evening and finally the banquet at the University “hall of pillars”. All-in-all, we feel that this meeting was the best yet with an optimal combination of scientific and social activities. Welcome back in May, 2011!
