In 1899, at the very opening of Grand, people were already thinking on entirely different lines. They were of the opinion that guests at such a fashionable hotel were not only supposed to eat and sleep there, but also spend more time during their stay enjoying life and each other’s company.
Grand Hotel is built with French castle architecture from the renaissance as model. The construction was started October 12, 1896. During the construction a metal case containing new newspapers, coins and samples on spirits was built in. The case is still left in the walls of the hotel.
