Masterclass - Robot assisted surgery for benign gynecological disorders
Main course November 6-7 2012 with associated hands on piglab and practical training November 5 or 8
TARGET AUDIENCE
Aimed at consultants, trainees and OR nurses in benign gynecology within and outside Europe with some experience of, or an interest in, robot assisted laparoscopic surgery.
COURSE CONTENT
The Masterclass in benign gynecological surgery will feature live surgery and/or prerecorded unedited video demonstrations of simple and extraperitoneal hysterectomy, myomectomy, sacrocolpopexy, uterocolpopexi, repair of lateral vaginal wall defects and robotic surgery in advanced PID with a focus on practical performance, instrumentation, tips and tricks as well as surgical anatomy. Techniques for surgery of morbidly obese women and surgery for large uteri will be demonstrated as well as applications for endometriosis, surgery during pregnancy and surgery for genital malformations. Economic aspects will be covered.
Included in course agenda is a one day practical training with the da Vinci system in a live porcine model with focus on general surgical techniques, different suturing techniques and management of severe bleeding complications with the da Vinci system. Also included is training of docking and port placement alternatives and training in robot simulators.
The number of course participants is limited to eight surgeons and four OR nurses to ensure optimal interactivity and exchange of experience and knowledge as well as maximal outcome of practical training and demonstration sessions.
We recommend delegates to bring an OR nurse to the partly separate program for OR nurses. The nurses program will cover OR set up, patient preparation and positioning as well as safety aspects and tips and tricks in robotics. The nurses will accompany a local robotic OR nurse in the GYN theatre. A total of four OR nurses may register for the break out nurses program.
The centre of Lund, and the University Hospital, is easily reached from Copenhagen Airport. Direct commuter train leaves every 15 minutes with a travel time of 35 minutes.
